Dreadmarch is coming to Steam as a full 1.0 release for Windows: all fifty stages, all ten zones and the Maelstrom, and the Hall of Legends opens the same day. Wishlist it and Steam will tell you the moment it is out. The Windows download that used to live on this page has been retired; the Android build stays as a sideload at 0.7.0. It is still a game made by one person, so if something breaks, tell me what you find.
The PC edition of Dreadmarch from here on. Steam keeps it up to date on its own, and the Hall of Legends records come from this edition. If you played the Windows build from this site, the Steam edition reads the same save folder, so your progress carries over on the same machine.
Wishlist on SteamA sideload build. Your phone will ask whether to allow installs from this source — that prompt is normal for any APK that did not come from the Play Store.
Download the APKAlready have the Windows build from this site? It keeps working, and your save is waiting for the Steam edition. Saves live in your own user folder, so a new build will not wipe your run. If a download stalls or the game will not start, email me and say which file and which machine.
Every image and every track in the game as the files themselves — for wallpapers, ringtones, or just to listen to. They used to ship inside the game's Settings menu; keeping them out makes the game a third of the download. The art comes in three parts only because of an upload limit; together they are the whole library.
The ten zone maps and every battlefield, the title screen, the menus' painted backdrops and the chronicle's plates, at the size they were painted.
Download backgroundsEvery enemy and boss sheet, and the people you meet on the road: the merchant, the narrators and the rest of the camp.
Download creaturesThe towers and their projectiles, abilities and effects, the shop, the buttons, icons and the intro plates.
Download towers & interfaceThe ten zone themes and the boss takes, the merchant and the narrators, and every sound the towers and creatures make.
Download the music packPersonal use only. Listen privately, set the art as a wallpaper or lock screen, use a sound as a ringtone, print a piece for your own wall, edit files for yourself, keep backups — all fine, no credit needed, and they stay yours if you uninstall or refund the game. Reuploading the files, sharing them as a pack, putting them in another game, product or video soundtrack, or selling anything made from them needs written permission first; editing a file or crediting Haboon does not change that. Gameplay videos, streams and guides are always welcome. Separate third-party licences still apply. The full Terms of Use and Personal Asset License has the details; for anything else, hello@haboonworks.com.
Each zone has its own animated map and its own weather. Easy, Normal, Hard or Insanity is chosen once per save — from 15 lives and any tower carrying you, down to 3 lives and bosses that were built to end runs.
The notes below describe the Steam build in development. Dreadmarch 1.0 has not launched yet.
The endless Maelstrom past stage 50 is now one difficulty for everyone. Whatever your campaign is played on, a descent starts with six lives and the waves, speeds and bosses of Insanity, so a depth means the same thing on every save and the Hall of Legends can rank them all on one board. If you had a best from before, the camp keeps it next to the new one as “before the rebalance”. Down there the towers are tuned so that every build has a real run in it, not just cannon and frost. Basic and frost towers hit three times as hard. The cannon hits a little over twice as hard and its shells fly half again as fast, so they stop sailing past the rush waves. The sniper hits nearly twice as hard. In exchange, the frost tower’s slow is lighter, shorter and narrower, and it no longer freezes. Each tower’s card spells out what changed on its Attuned line. Every single-tower build and every pair I tried now reaches about as deep as cannon and frost, where before some of them fell at the first boss. None of this touches the campaign.
A cannon and a frost tower at the start of a stage could hold off most of it before the rest of the map even mattered. That is backwards: inside a stage, each wave should get further down the road than the one before. The waves are now sized against what your gold has really bought by that point, rather than against a fully upgraded field, so the middle of a stage asks for the towers you could have built by then. A wave also can no longer bunch up so tightly that one shell catches half of it. The cannon was the other half of the problem. Everything near a shell’s target used to take half its damage, and now it takes a fifth. The target itself still takes the full hit, and the rank-five cluster bombs are unchanged, so cannons are still the strongest towers late in the campaign. That part is on purpose. Three empty pads that no tower could use are painted out of their maps as well: one inside the road loop on stage 22 and two at the bottom of stage 47.
The Steam edition has 68 achievements, picked from the game’s own honours: kills, waves, finished runs, gold, towers, flawless stages, the Maelstrom and the campfire tales. If you already have progress when you first start it, everything you have earned unlocks the first time you play. Your saves follow you through Steam Cloud too. Start the game from your Steam library on another PC and your profiles are waiting. Window and screen settings stay with each machine, so a laptop does not inherit a desktop’s resolution.
Dreadmarch has a Steam store page, and it is going out there as version 1.0, a full release, for Windows. Wishlist it and Steam will tell you the moment it is out. The Windows download on this page has been retired: your save carries over to the Steam edition on the same machine, and the Android build stays as a sideload.
Every tower now stands in the centre of its painted plot, on all fifty stages. The Sporefield and the Splintered Crown lose the plots that had no pad under them or could not reach the road, and the World-Heart’s last waves are a little lighter to match. A 410 KB update; your save carries over.
A 73 KB patch for the updater itself. From this build on, a new version downloads on its own as soon as the title screen finds it, and RESTART TO UPDATE really does restart the game. To get it, press UPDATE TO 0.8.2 on the title screen once, then reopen the game. Your save carries over.
